ABOUT MIKA OLDHAM STUDENT TRUST

MOST was founded in 2015 by Mika Oldham, following 30 years of teaching Law at Cambridge University.

The aim of the trust is to assist students who are bright but whose background and schooling may be hindering the achievement of their full potential and ambitions.

Selection of MOST scholars will be on the basis of competitive testing of aptitude to study Law, such testing to be held in two or three centres in different parts of the country (details will be posted in the News section).  The test will be similar in style to the Law admission tests used at Cambridge, but will be aimed at students at an earlier stage of their education.  As with the Cambridge test, no knowledge of Law on the part of applicants will be expected.

About

SERVICES

Mentoring

One-to-one support during process of applying for a Law degree and, if successful, during university study.

Mentors are Cambridge Law graduates, mostly practising legal professionals.

Funding

MOST scholars will be able to apply for limited financial assistance to help with costs related to their preparation to apply for a place to study Law.  Small grants will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Non-exclusive examples of the sort of expenses that might qualify for a grant are the costs of relevant work experience (at a solicitors’ firm, shadowing a barrister, or attending court), the provision of introductory law books, or travel costs to Law School Open Days.

MENTORS

Mentors will provide scholars with advice and guidance on school and/or career choices and opportunities, feedback on ideas, encouragement and general support.

The majority of mentors will be Cambridge Law graduates. In some cases academic staff may offer more specific support, for example, with regard to admissions tests and interviews.
